Tragic Death of One of Our Students

Dec 16, 2022 —

Dear Colleagues and Students,

Wednesday night, we learned about the horrific murder of a young pregnant woman allegedly by the hands of her own brother.  N-Kya Rebecca Logan was a student at Fresno City College enrolled in the Early Child Education Program.  This was the city’s 57th and 58th homicide this year.  To us, she and her unborn child are more than a number.  She was one of our own.  Her death is beyond comprehension.

I offer my most sincere condolences to the family and friends of N-Kya.  We know their loss is simply devasting and unimaginable.  I know that many of you reading this message will join me in prayer for their comfort during this incredibly horrible time.

College administration has reached out to N-Kya’s instructors to check on them as they are dealing with this senseless killing of someone with whom they worked so closely.  Deborah Lewis, Instructor/Coordinator, Child Development at FCC, put it best, “she was so precious, just a gentle and kind person.”  She continued to share that N-Kya had a promising career as an early childhood educator in her future.

Faculty and staff shared that N-Kya’s positive impact on young children was evident as they witnessed her working with our young students at the FCC Child Development Center.  We will never know what her full impact on young lives and in our community would have been.

We must continue to honor each life lost due to violence, here and across the nation.  Regardless of the location of a senseless killing, it has an impact on us all.

While we know that our students and faculty have started their Winter Break, we are here for you all.
