Chancellor's Message Regarding Oklahoma Mass Shooting

Jun 2, 2022 —

Dear Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø students, faculty, staff and community members,

It is with a heavy heart that I must report another tragedy that has become all too common in this country. A gunman opened fire inside the St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, killing at least four people.  We send our condolences to the family and friends of those killed and wounded.

It is truly a tragedy when these senseless killings take place and rob the lives of innocent people.  This incident marks the 233rd mass shooting of 2022 in the U.S.  There are many suggestions to address this type of violence.  My hope is something can be done quickly and that our legislators can reach some kind of agreement to keep us safe and to prevent another tragedy.

In the meantime, there are things we can do, get involved with our youth, show compassion for the disenfranchised, and if you see something, say something

To all our students, faculty and staff, who are feeling the weight of the recent tragedies, know that your Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø family is here to support you.  If you’re a student, we have people you can talk to about these difficult times. You can reach someone on our campuses.  Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¹ÙÍø employees have access to confidential resources through the Employee Assistance Program, free of charge.

Be well. Take care of each other.

Sincerely,

Dr. Carole Goldsmith

Chancellor
